Composite Image

This page illustrates an example of wonderful things you can do with image editing/manipulating software.  There are many image editing software in the market. Fortunately, one of the best image editors is free.  It is an open source software called GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program.  The following shows features I used in GIMP to produce the final photo at the bottom.

Original photo of Space Needle in Seattle Washington. This picture was taken from Alki Beach with a zoom lens.

Applied the edge detection filter in GIMP . Edge detection picks up something you cannot normally see without zooming in.  A light in the sky and a small boat in the middle of the dark water are visible.

Made the dark area darker and edges brighter by applying the curve feature in GIMP.  

Copied refection in the water and pasted it. Note that reflection in the water is longer than the above photo.  

My family photo - this was taken from the same spot at Alki Beach. The background image of Seattle is small and not visible due to flash light.  

Copied people from the family photo and pasted them to the processed image of Space Needle. Added some lights behind people.
